Al Nassr rivals Al Hilal preparing offer to sign Messi They are hoping to bring the Argentine to Saudi Arabia Al Nassr's local rivals Al Hilal are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi. The Saudi club are willing to lure the 2022 World Cup winner to the country after their competitors managed to land Cristiano Ronaldo on a two-year deal. Ronaldo parted ways with Manchester United by mutual consent after hitting out at his former coach Erik Ten Hag and the club's owner in a controversial interview with Piers Morgan. According to Mundo Deportivo, Al Hilal have been preparing an offer that would see Messi earn $300 million per year in the event he agrees to move to the Saudi side. It has to be noted that Messi is already linked to the country as he is currently Saudi's tourism ambassador. "Lionel Messi wants you to unleash your inner emotion seeker and discover the unimaginable," reads the 'Visit Saudi' website. "Wheth

The games Joao Felix will miss after Chelsea star sent off in Fulham Premier League clash

Joao Felix's start to life at Chelsea did not go as everyone associated would have hoped for. The 23-year-old was sent off by referee David Coote in the 58th minute after a dangerous challenge on Kenny Tete. Felix's dismissal came at the worst possible time for Chelsea after Denis Zakaria was forced off injured moments earlier. Fulham went on to win the game courtesy of Carlos Vinicius's header past Kepa Arrizabalaga to pile more pressure onto Graham Potter. Speaking after the defeat, Potter defended Felix's intentions with the challenge but admitted he understood Coote's decision. It was a reaction from the side and it was a forward's tackle," Potter said. "There was no malice. I understand the sending off. It is another blow. I thought he was good, you could see his quality in the game, so it is a double disappointment for us." The defeat compounds Chelsea's misery in 2023. Since the turn of the year, the Blues have played four games and fai

CHAN Holders Morrocco withdraw from tournament due to airspace issue with host Algeria

Morocco have withdrawn from the defence of their African Nations Championship (CHAN) crown this month after being refused a direct flight by host nation Algeria. Diplomatic ties between the north African neighbours were severed by Algeria in 2021, and with that action, all direct flights between the two countries were suspended. The tournament, which the Atlas Lions won in 2018 and 2020, kicks off on Friday as Algeria host Libya and is the Confederation of African Football's (Caf) international event for players who play domestically in the leagues on the continent. Morocco were due to begin their hunt for a third consecutive crown on Sunday against Sudan, but FMRF said in a statement: "(We) were informed on December 22 by Caf that an authorisation in principle had been obtain

Qatar's unforgettable night of chaos makes mockery of FIFA decision...The conclusion of World Cup Group E produced several memorable moments as Japan and Spain squeaked through to the Round of 16 with Germany and Costa Rica eliminated

The 2022 World Cup has exploded into life. All the drama, the jeopardy, the jubilation and the agony – all four of Group E’s nations experienced all these emotions across an unforgettable two hours. It was a fitting conclusion to a group which kickstarted with Japan’s shock comeback victory over Germany and Spain’s seven-goal demolition of Costa Rica. The Central American nation’s shock win over Japan had blown the group open, and Germany had kept their hopes alive with a draw against Spain. It was all on the line going into the final games with Spain leading the group on four points, one point ahead of both Japan and Costa Rica, with a three-point advantage on Germany – over whom they had a vastly superior goal difference. Despite the delicate situation, it initially appeared that the two European giants would progress relatively serenely. In the tenth minute, Serge Gnabry gave Germany the lead over Costa Rica and two minutes later, Alvaro Morata put Spain in front against Japan. T

Possible penalty overturn: Salisu foul on Ronaldo

Why Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty for Portugal vs. Ghana didn't go to a full VAR review Cristiano Ronaldo just got a touch on the ball ahead of Mohammed Salisu. EPA/Rolex dela Pena Portugal 3-2 Ghana Possible penalty overturn: Salisu foul on Ronaldo What happened: Portugal were awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute when Cristiano Ronaldo was knocked over by Mohammed Salisu. VAR decision: Penalty stands, scored by Ronaldo. VAR review: This only required a quick check by the VAR, United States referee Armando Villarreal. Replays showed that Ronaldo definitely got to the ball first ahead of Salisu before there was contact on the Portugal striker's boot and upper body. Even though this could certainly be considered a soft penalty, we have to look at it in VAR terms; it would not be seen as a clear and obvious error by the match referee, fellow American official Ismail Elfath. Equally, if the referee hadn't given the penalty, it's unlikely the VAR would have advised a

Wales fans report being banned from wearing rainbow hats Former Wales international Laura McAllister says she was stopped from taking her rainbow-coloured bucket hat into the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium because it is a "banned symbol". She is one of a number of Wales fans attending the game against the USA to have reported being prevented from taking the hat into the stadium. The rainbow is a renowned symbol in support of LGBTQ+ rights and both Wales and England have been determined to support it in Qatar – but were forced by FIFA to abandon plans to wear the rainbow OneLove captain's armband on Monday. McAllister has told ITV News: "We were aware, while we were queuing up, that there had been some rumours about people wearing the rainbow bucket hat that had had theirs taken off them. "Then when we got through security, some of the guards said we had to take the hats off, and when I asked them why they said 'because it is a banned symbol' and we 'weren’t a
